Start with what is known
Describe the symptoms, when they began, affected fixtures and any previous repairs. Distinguish visible damage from an assumed cause. A blocked fixture, pipe leak or pressure issue may need investigation before a repair can be scoped.
Agree the assessment terms
Ask what the visit includes, whether there is a diagnostic or call-out fee, and whether specialist investigation is separate. Confirm if the fee is credited against later work and whether that depends on accepting a quote.
Ask for the findings, options and limitations in writing. Opening walls, camera inspection, excavation or specialist testing should be discussed before it is authorised.
Share useful access details
Tell the plumber about parking, stairs, occupants, property-management approval and access to the affected area. Photograph visible symptoms only when it is safe to do so; do not dismantle equipment to obtain a picture.
Read preparing for a plumbing visit and compare the resulting options using the quote worksheet.
