Describe what you want inspected, repaired, replaced or installed. Tell the plumber about access and previous work, then ask what needs an assessment before a quote.
Give each plumber the same brief. Request separate labour, parts, access, removal and testing costs, with call-out charges, exclusions, warranties and payment terms in writing.

Ask who will carry out the work and what qualifications, licensing and insurance apply to your project and location. Request supporting details and check them with the appropriate issuer where relevant. Confirm suitability directly with the plumber.
Each company sets its own prices. The quote can depend on device type and quantity, testing requirements, access and scheduling, reporting included, repairs quoted separately. Ask for an itemised price, call-out charges, exclusions and the approval process for extra work.
Share relevant photos you already have of the fixtures, visible pipework, equipment and access, plus model details or previous reports where available. Ask what else the provider needs to understand your request.
Ask whether your backflow testing request needs an inspection before a firm quote. Confirm the assessment scope, any charge and which work or prices still need confirmation.
Agree how completion will be checked before work starts. Review the accepted scope and any testing, operating instructions, documentation, warranties and aftercare included. Record outstanding items and follow the agreed payment terms.
Review each company's listed services, real work, description and coverage for relevance to your project. Consider any displayed rating together with its review count, then contact the business to confirm experience, current availability and booking terms.
